Former Hen star Nagy to play in ArenaBowl
The teams will meet in ArenaBowl XIX to be played at 3 p.m., Sunday, June 12, in Las Vegas. The game will be broadcast on NBC. Georgia reached the championship game in exciting fashion, as Nagy led the Force in a frantic 60-58 comeback victory over the Orlando Predators to capture the National Conference title. Georgia trailed by 13 points midway through the third quarter but outscored Orlando 33-12 from that point on to earn the victory. Nagy, who did a masterful job of looking off defensive backs and finding open receivers, completed 26 passes in 36 attempts for 344 yards and seven touchdowns. He also ran for one touchdown. The quarterbacks favorite target was Chris Jackson, who caught eight passes for 147 yards and four touchdowns. Nagy, who earlier was named second team All-AFL for his outstanding season, was a prolific quarterback for the Fightin Blue Hens under former head coach Harold R. Tubby Raymond. He led the 2000 team to a record of 12-2, an Atlantic 10 Conference title and a berth in the NCAA Division I-AA tournament, where the Hens were knocked out in the semifinals 27-18 by Georgia Southern University. Nagy holds the UD records for most passes completed in a career, with 502, for most passes attempted in a career, with 895, for the most yards passing in a career, with 8,214, and for the most touchdown passes in a career, with 58. He has the top two single game performances in school history, having thrown for 556 yards against the University of Connecticut in 1998 and for 456 yards against Villanova University in 2000.
