UD Press book on Byron wins top award
The Dangerfield prize was established in 1986 and identifies and rewards scholarship for publication of new and original work related to the life, works and times of Byron. The award was presented at the International Byron Society conference at University College, Dublin, in August. The book, a memoir by the poets last mistress who knew Byron from 1819 until he left Italy for Greece in 1823, was written in the 1860s and has only been available to a few scholars. Translated by Michael Rees, who formerly cochaired the Byron Society and is now a Cistercian monk, and edited by Peter Cochran, who is the editor of the Newstead Abbey Byron Society Review, the book is an important addition and fills a gap in studies of Byron.
