Three UD football coaches step up to Division I-A 2:35 p.m., March 7, 2005--Three University of Delaware football assistant coaches have accepted offers to join the staffs of NCAA Division I-A programs in recent weeks. Most recently, UD Head Coach K.C. Keeler announced that passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach Bryan Bossard has resigned to accept a position as receivers coach at the University of Maryland, which competes in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Fightin’ Blue Hens are scheduled to meet Maryland to open the 2008 season. Earlier, offensive line coach Kyle Flood accepted a position at Rutgers University of the Big East Conference and defensive backs coach Paul Williams moved to Western Michigan University of the Mid-American Conference. Bill Cubit, a former Hen star, is the new head coach at Western Michigan. Keeler said the changes reflect well on the UD football program and the coaches, who have played important roles in helping the Hens win the 2003 NCAA Division I-AA national championship and back-to-back Atlantic 10 Football Conference titles. “When you win like we have won, people recognize that the team is very well coached,” he said. When Division I-A programs are in the process of replenishing their staffs, Keeler said it is natural for them to turn to a successful program such as UD. “I am very excited for those guys,” Keeler said, adding that he made personal recommendations on behalf of all three. “It is a tremendous opportunity for them.” At the same time, Keeler said change is natural and that it can be a benefit in introducing new ideas into a program. “Delaware is the kind of place where we feel we can attract quality assistant coaches,” he said. One new coach already has been added to the staff, with Isaac Collins, formerly the associate head football coach at the College of the Holy Cross, replacing Williams as the defensive backs coach. Searches are being conducted to replace the other coaches. In other coaching news, Keeler has announced that two part-time coaches, Craig Cummings and Dave Scott, have stepped down. Cummings, who served as a part-time defensive assistant the last three seasons, has accepted a full-time management position with the athletic clothing manufacturer Under Armour. Scott, who was tight ends coach last season, plans to devote more time to his full-time position as a mathematics teacher at nearby Glasgow High School.
