UD featured in Princeton Review’s ‘Best 357 Colleges’

9:05 a.m., Aug. 19, 2004--The University of Delaware has been selected as one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education in The Princeton Review’s 2005 annual college guide, The Best 357 Colleges, published by Random House.

According to the publisher, the book includes only ‘the crème of the crop’ among undergraduate institutions, representing about 15 percent of the four-year colleges in America and only two Canadian colleges.

“We select schools for this book based on our knowledge of and visits to them, on institutional data we review about them and on the opinions of independent college counselors, students and parents we talk to and survey,” Robert Franke, vice president for guidebook publishing at The Princeton Review, said.

In the guide, UD is given four-star rankings for campus life and for selectivity.

The book’s profiles include candid comments from students.

In the area of Academics, the book quotes an undergraduate saying, “Delaware is about opportunities to work hands-on with faculty, either through the Honors Program, undergraduate research, senior thesis or simply additional meetings with professors outside of class.” Another student said the “University of Delaware prides itself on enriching its students while they are here, not only in academics, but also in life experiences, involvement on campus and preparing for the future.”

In the section on Life, students comment on the wealth of activities on and near the campus and the range of student organizations that are available. According to one student, UD “has achieved the perfect balance between strong and challenging academic work and social events.”

This is the 13th edition of the college guide, which was first published in 1992.
