Womens basketball assistant coaches leaving UD 3:02 p.m., July 8, 2004--University of Delaware assistant womens basketball coaches Tyrone Perry and Carrie Timmins have left the Blue Hen staff to pursue other coaching opportunities. Perry, a former Delaware standout who served two seasons on the UD mens basketball coaching staff before serving the past three seasons on the womens basketball coaching staff under head coach Tina Martin, has been named assistant mens basketball coach at Mt. St. Marys College in Emmitsburg, Md. Timmons, 23, who began her coaching career last fall with the Blue Hens after a standout career on the womens basketball team, has accepted a position as a health and physical education teacher and middle school girls basketball coach at her alma mater, New Oxford (Pa.) High School. Both Tyrone and Carrie contributed to our success over the last few years, Martin said. Both had outstanding opportunities in other areas of coaching that they couldnt pass up, and we wish them the best of luck in the future. The University is currently conducting a nationwide search to replace both coaches and plans to fill the positions within the next month. A native of Newport News, Va., and a 1998 UD graduate, Perry, 26, was a four-year standout at point guard for Delaware under former head coach Mike Brey, and led the Blue Hens to America East conference titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in 1998 and 1999. A three-time team captain who never missed a game in his 119-game career, Perry is second at UD in steals (186) and three-pointers with (170), and fourth in assists (376). During Perrys career with the womens team, the Blue Hens were 64-26 while advancing to the Womens National Invitation Tournament in 2002 and 2003. The Blue Hens shared the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) title with Old Dominion in 2003. Timmins began her coaching career at UD last season and helped the Delaware post a 19-10 overall record and a fourth-place finish in the CAA. A four-year letter winner, Timmins started as a senior point guard during the 2002-03 season, leading the Blue Hens to a share of the CAA regular season title and a second straight trip to the Womens NIT Tournament. During her four seasons at UD, the Hens posted an overall record of 92-29 and advanced to the playoffs three times while reeling off an unprecedented four straight 20-win seasons. A 2003 UD honors graduate, Timmons was a CAA Ehlers Leadership Award nominee in 2002-03 and a Verizon/College Sports Information Directors of America Academic All-American nominee. A two-time winner of the UD womens basketball teams Top Conditioned Athlete Award, Timmons also was honored in 2002 by the National Strength and Conditioning Association as an All-American for her dedication to conditioning and weight training.
