Delaware men’s lacrosse to open 2005 season

10:43 a.m., Feb. 11, 2005--The University of Delaware men’s lacrosse team will open the 2005 season with a home game against St. Joseph’s University at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 12, at Rullo Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens finished 10-6 last season and reached the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament, where they lost 15-6 to Villanova University. After a three-game midseason stretch in which UD defeated nationally ranked teams from the U.S. Air Force Academy and the University of Maryland Baltimore County, as well as Hofstra, the Hens moved into the national top 20 polls.

The Hens return second team All-CAA goalkeeper Chris Collins, attackmen Andy Hipple and Cam Howard, midfielders Alex Smith and Joe Trentzsch and defenseman Ian Wright.

Top newcomers to the squad include defenseman Frank Hopkins, a transfer from Essex Community College in Maryland, freshman attackmen Vince Giordano and Kent Lucas and freshman midfielders John Carrozza and J.J. Moran.

Head Coach Bob Shillinglaw will begin his 27th season with the Hens. His record at UD is 204-199.
