Young violin virtuoso to hold master class
Sponsored by the Delaware Symphony Orchestra (DSO) in cooperation with the UD music department, the master class is free and open to the public, and no reservations are required. During the class UD violin students will play for Josefowicz, who will critique their technique, style and artistic quality. She also will offer insights about musical careers to the students and audience. Josefowicz will perform with the Delaware Symphony Orchestra at 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 11, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 13, at the Grand Opera House in Wilmington. The program will feature Shostakovichs Violin Concerto and also Ravels Bolero and Valses nobles et sentimentales and Mussorgskys Introduction to Khovanshchina, with pre-performance lectures by DSO cellist Eugene Klein. Tickets are $32-52 for Fridays performance and $25 on Sunday. Student tickets for those 18 and under are $10, and $10 student rush tickets are available 30 minutes before curtain time for all students with valid IDs. Josefowicz made her Carnegie Hall debut in 1994 and has appeared with many of the worlds most prestigious orchestras, including the Boston and Chicago symphonies, the Cleveland and Philadelphia orchestras, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and many other European orchestras and collaborated with eminent conductors, including Seiji Ozawa and Wolfgang Sawallisch. She also has appeared on television on The Tonight Show, Evening at Pops and Live from Lincoln Center and was profiled on CBS Sunday Morning. Her performance of John Adams Violin Concerto, conducted by the composer, was televised and broadcast by BBC throughout Europe.
