Western Michigan hires UD alum Bill Cubit

3:26 p.m., Dec. 7, 2004--University of Delaware alumnus Bill Cubit has been named the head football coach at Western Michigan University.

Cubit, who played for the Fightin’ Blue Hens from 1971-74, accepted the head coaching position after serving as quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator at Stanford University.

Cubit had been the offensive coordinator at Western Michigan from 1997-99, later taking similar positions at the University of Missouri and Rutgers University before joining the staff at Stanford.

“I’m thankful for the opportunity Western Michigan University has given me to come back to a place I love,” Cubit said. “I look forward to bringing the Broncos back to a level of success that is deserving of this program.”

Western Michigan competes in the NCAA Division I Mid-American Conference.

Cubit graduated from UD in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration.
