Hen women’s soccer team falls to Navy in overtime

11:15 a.m., Oct. 13, 2003--Stacey Finley of the U.S. Naval Academy scored the golden goal at 104:43 to send the University of Delaware women's soccer team to a 3-2 overtime loss on Friday night in Annapolis.

Maggie Curran led Navy with two goals while Finley notched one goal and one assist, including scoring the game-winner on an assist by Molly Burg in the second overtime period.

Delaware took a 1-0 lead in the game on an own goal by Navy at 22:34. Navy tied the score 11 minutes later as Maggie Curran scored an unassisted goal.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens made it 2-1 when sophomore Shannon Alger registered her first collegiate goal at Delaware on an assist by senior Caryn Blood. The assist was Blood’s ninth of the season and the 18th of her career. She currently tops the Colonial Athletic Association in assists and prior to the match was ranked fifth nationally in assists per game.

Navy 's Curran and Finley both scored again to win 3-2.

UD senior goalkeeper Andrea Lunn had seven saves.

Delaware (6-4-2 overall, 2-1-1 in CAA) will return to conference action with a game at Towson University on Friday, Oct. 18. Game time is 1 p.m.
