Blue Hen women’s soccer will host Hofstra Sept. 26

3:31 p.m., Sept. 22, 2003--The University of Delaware women’s soccer team will open its Colonial Athletic Association schedule with a home game against Hofstra University at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26, at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will enter that game 4-2-1 after a 6-0 home victory over Howard University on Saturday.

Senior tri-captain Caryn Blood had a hand in four goals in the game, scoring two and assisting on two others. It was the first time a UD player has contributed to four goals in a game since Mandy Merritt scored one goal and had three assists in a 4-1 victory over Northeastern on Oct. 24, 1999.

Delaware took a 2-0 lead at the half then scored four second-half goals for its largest goal output since a 6-1 win over the University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2002 and the largest shutout victory since a 6-0 win over Hofstra on Oct. 22, 1995.

In addition to the goals and assists by Blood, UD senior Francesca Termini scored two goals, senior Maria Pollaro scored one goal and one assist and sophomore Jenny Donoghue notched her first goal of the season.

Termini scored two goals in a match for the second time this season and is now tied with Brittany Campbell ('02) for fourth all-time in career goals with 24.

UD used three goalkeepers in the game, sophomore Lindsay Shover, senior Andrea Lunn and redshirt freshman Bonnie Mills. They combined for two saves.
