UD womens soccer team to host St. Josephs Aug. 29
3:20 p.m., Aug. 20, 2003--The 2003 womens soccer season will kick off on Friday, Aug. 29, when the University of Delaware hosts St. Josephs University at 7 p.m. at the Delaware Mini-Stadium.
St. Josephs is coached by former Fightin Blue Hens player Jess Reynolds and will enter the game after a preseason that included a trip to Norway.
After playing St. Josephs, UD, which is coached by Scott Grzenda, will visit the University of Maryland Baltimore County for a game Sept. 2, before competing in tournaments in Charlotte, N.C., and Fairfax, Va.
UD will face the University of North Carolina Charlotte on Sept. 5 and East Carolina University on Sept. 7 in the Charlotte Tournament. UNC Charlotte is the defending Conference USA champion and a 2002 NCAA tournament participant, and 49ers sophomore Courtney Crandall has been named the 2003 C-USA Player of the Year in a preseason poll. Crandall was named a first team All-American as a freshman.
The Hens will face North Carolina State University on Sept. 12 and Boston University on Sept. 14 in the George Mason Tournament in Fairfax. In 2002, North Carolina State defeated perennial national power the University of North Carolina 2-1, and the Wolfpack returns senior forwards Lindsey Underwood and Adrienne Barnes.
