UD soccer star Blood is CAA Player of Week

9:50 a.m., Sept. 23, 2003--University of Delaware senior tri-captain Caryn Blood has been named the Colonial Athletic Association Women's Soccer Player of the Week, the conference announced Monday.

Blood had a hand in four goals to help the UD women's soccer team to its most lopsided shutout victory in eight seasons with a 6-0 win over Howard University on Saturday.

Blood scored two goals and two assists against Howard, marking the first time one Delaware player has contributed to four goals in a game since Mandy Merritt scored one goal and had three assists in a 4-1 victory over Northeastern in 1999.

Blood leads the Fightin’ Blue Hens in points with 13, on three goals and seven assists, and ranks first in the CAA with 1.0 assists per game. She has tallied an assist in the each of the past four games.

Blood is tied for fourth in career assists at UD, with 16, and is tied for fifth in career goals, with 19.

This honor marks the first time a UD women's soccer player has earned a player of the week honor since joining the CAA last season.
