UD women’s lacrosse team announces recruiting class

11:25 a.m., May 12, 2004--Four players have signed NCAA National Letters of Intent to compete for the University of Delaware women's lacrosse team, Head Coach Denise Wescott announced Tuesday.

The players are Katie Hogan of Farmingdale High School on Long Island, N.Y.; Casey McCrudden of Eastern Regional High School in Voorhees, N.J.; Colleen Ingelsby of Archbishop Carroll High School in Berwyn, Pa., and Melissa Whitehead of Sachem High School in Holbrook, N.Y.

At Farmingdale High, Hogan earned All-American honors as a junior and twice was named to the All-Nassau County team. Hogan also excelled in basketball, earning All-Conference honors three times and All-County honors as a senior. She was named the most valuable player for the Yellow Jackets Lacrosse Club team.

McCrudden was a two-time All-Olympic Conference selection and earned All-South Jersey and All-State honors in 2003 for Eastern Regional High. She has scored 176 career goals and last year ranked first in South Jersey and second in the state in scoring.

McCrudden also was a two-time All-Olympic Conference selection in soccer. She served as captain of the soccer team for three years and is serving as captain of the lacrosse team this spring.

Ingelsby led Archbishop Carroll to three straight conference championships and was named to the All-Catholic League, All-Main Line, All-Delaware County and All-Suburban teams. She is serving as captain of the lacrosse team this spring and is in her fourth year as a starter.

Ingelsby is also a talented soccer player and earned All-Catholic League, All-Main Line, All-Delaware County and All-Suburban honors four times in that sport. She is a three-time Academic All-American and a two-time member of the Pennsylvania Area Schoolgirls Lacrosse Association (PASLA) national team.

Whitehead is a three-year varsity starter in lacrosse at Sachem High and is serving as the team captain this spring. She earned All-County honors in 2003 and also was named the conference Rookie of the Year. She has led her team to the county playoffs each of the last two seasons and led her Long Island-based club team to the New York state title last year.

In addition, Whitehead was a varsity letter winner in field hockey and a three-year letter winner in indoor track and field at Sachem High.

UD finished the 2004 season with a record of 6-10, upsetting nationally ranked Penn State in the finale. The Fightin’ Blue Hens are losing just four seniors and are expected to return nine starters for the 2005 season.
