UD womens lacrosse team falls 17-8 to Hofstra 11:48 a.m., April 5, 2004--The University of Delaware womens lacrosse team fell 17-8 to Hofstra University in a Colonial Athletic Association game played on Sunday afternoon at Shuart Stadium in Hempstead, N.Y. The first half was hard-fought and left the Fightin Blue Hens trailing just 6-4 before Hofstra pulled away in the second half. With the loss, UD falls to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the CAA. The Hens will host James Madison University at 7 p.m., Friday, April 9, at Rullo Stadium. James Madison is ranked No. 7 in NCAA Division I with a record of 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the CAA. On Sunday, the game went back and forth in the opening stages and was tied at 4-4 after a goal by UDs Michelle Campolettano with 4:47 left to play in the first half. However, Hofstra scored just 37 seconds later to start a 7-0 run that carried over into the second half and gave the Pride a comfortable 11-4 lead. Hofstras Beck Thorn had seven goals in the game. UD was led by junior midfielder Erin Edell and freshman midfielder Jenny Diana, who each had two goals and one assist. Senior Shannon Kron had one goal and two assists. Also scoring for the Hens were Campolettano, Laura Libertini and Kristin Cellucci. Hen sophomore Patrice Hughes had four saves, and junior Lauren Burtch had one save.
