UD womens lacrosse team defeated by Pennsylvania
The Fightin Blue Hens built a 10-5 lead five minutes into the second half only to see Penn reel off 10 straight goals to take command of the game. With the loss, UD fell to 1-1. The Hens will return to action at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 6, with a game against Rutgers University at Rullo Stadium. The Scarlet Knights, picked to finish fourth in the Big East Conference, are 1-1 after a 12-7 victory over Hofstra University on Tuesday. In Wednesdays game, Kristen Cellucci led the Hens with three goals and one assist while Shannon Kron had two goals and an assist and Jenny Diana and Diana Hall scored two goals each. For Penn, Chrissy Muller scored a game-high five goals while Lindsey Cassidy and Emily Cochran each scored four times and Ali Ryan added two goals and an assist. Cochran scored all four of her goals during the pivotal 10-0 run. Six different Hens scored goals in the first half as UD took a 6-5 lead into intermission. UD came out strong in the second half as Cellucci scored twice and Erin Edell and Diana each added single goals in the first five minutes to build a 10-5 lead with 25:07 left. Then Penn reeled off 10 straight goals, including four by Cochran and two each by Ryan and Cassidy. The Quakers tied the score at 10-10 on a goal by Cassidy with 11:12 left to play and went ahead for good when Cochran scored her second goal of the game with 9:20 remaining.
