Register for ‘Step into Spring’ by March 19

1:31 p.m., Feb. 27, 2004--UD’s Employee Wellness Center is now accepting registrations for this year's spring walking program, "Step into Spring.” Participants record their total steps on the log provided, then, at the end of the program, return it for a prize.

The eight-week program runs from Sunday, April 4, through Saturday, May 29. Besides a walking log, participants receive weekly e-mail tips, a handy key chain flashlight and a high-quality pedometer that tracks the number of steps taken. Cost is 20 Wellness dollars.

"The new pedometer is a great improvement over previous models,” Linda Smith, program coordinator, said. "We are confident that employees will appreciate the protective cover and the five-year warranty from the manufacturer.

“This step counter, made by Accusplit, has been successfully used by thousands of participants in the Centers for Disease Control’s nationwide program ‘America on the Move.’ We are proud to be able to offer it to employees as part of our program,” Smith said.

Marianne Carter, director of the Wellness Center, said many employees have had great success in losing weight and becoming more active by participating in previous walking programs.

“Employees find that recording their daily walking helps them focus on being more active,” Carter said. “This success translates into higher levels of fitness and well-being.” To read a program success story, visit [www.udel.edu/wellness/dysonhallfame.htm].

Registration forms have been sent to eligible employees via campus mail. Retirees also are eligible, and spouses can participate if they pay a $20 registration fee.

Register at [www.udel.edu/wellness] or by calling 831-8388. Registration ends Monday, March 19.
