WebCT course activation request deadline is Aug. 15

11:35 a.m., Aug. 4, 2003--Faculty who have not yet requested their WebCT courses for fall semester must do so by Aug. 15. This should be done at the beginning of each semester for each WebCT course, even if the WebCT course was used in a previous semester.

To activate a WebCT course, faculty should go to [www.udel.edu/webct] to fill out the UD WebCT Course Request Form.

  • Click “For Faculty.”
  • Click “WebCT Course Request.”
  • Click “Submit Query” when finished.

It is especially important to provide the right section numbers for the course and to include cross-listed courses.

After submission of the form, the course is typically created within two weeks, according to Karen Kral, information resource consultant. The class roster will appear in the WebCT course approximately two weeks before the first day of class and is adjusted throughout the semester from registrar updates. Submission of the form ensures that a WebCT course will be available for the start of class.

WebCT courses are archived from each semester and can be copied for use with the class rosters for a new semester upon faculty request. “Of the 163 course requests submitted thus far for fall 2003,” Kral said, “100 were copied from earlier semesters.”

Only faculty who have attended the WebCT Introduction class are eligible to use WebCT for their courses. If a faculty member wishes to use WebCT, he or she should sign up online at [http://present.smith.udel.edu/calendar].

  • Select the WebCT topic.
  • Click “Go.”
  • Click a class.
  • Fill out the class form and click “Register for this session.”

The next WebCT Introduction class, which is for new faculty only, will be held Aug. 20.

IT-User Services also will offer "WebCT 4.0: What's New" on Aug. 20 and 21 for faculty who have attended any WebCT introductory class.
