Relay run and remembrance ceremony honors veterans Nov. 6
11:35 a.m., Nov. 5, 2003--An all-day relay run and remembrance ceremony will honor veterans and active-duty servicemen and women on Thursday, Nov. 6.
Sponsored by the Army and Air Force ROTC, the one-and-a-half-mile run will begin at 6:30 a.m. and continue until 4 p.m., when it will conclude with a formal remembrance ceremony in front of Memorial Hall.
The relay course departs from the steps of Memorial Hall, winds to Academy Street, hooks left onto Main Street, loops past the Harrington Beach dorms and cycles again to the front of Memorial Hall. The entire UD ROTC cadet corps will run the course from 6:30-7:30 a.m. Then, from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m., the ranks will narrow to two runners for each cycle, with Army cadets running the morning shift and Air Force cadets running the afternoon shift. During each cycle, the POW/MIA flag will serve as the relay.
The 4 p.m. concluding ceremony, which will take place in front of Memorial Hall, is free and open to the public. In the event of rain, the relay run will be canceled and the remembrance ceremony will be moved to Room 130, Sharp Hall. For more information, call Maj. Holly Scott at 831-8216.
