Delaware volleyball rallies to defeat Temple

Valerie Murphy had 16 kills against Temple.
11:28 a.m., Sept. 17, 2003--Junior captain Valerie Murphy had 16 kills as the University of Delaware volleyball team rallied to defeat Temple University 3-2 Tuesday night at McGonigle Hall in Philadelphia.

After dropping the first two sets to Temple, 30-21 and 30-18, the Fightin’ Blue Hens bounced back for wins of 30-23, 30-21 and 15-12 to capture the match.

UD senior Liz Ommundsen and sophomore Niecy Taylor each had 12 kills, while freshman Claire McCormack notched seven kills. Also, senior Allison Hunter had 12 digs and 38 assists and sophomore Taylor Govaars had 12 digs.

Delaware won its second straight match and improved to 4-6. Temple fell to 1-6.

The Blue Hens return to action on Thursday, Sept. 25, when they begin Colonial Athletic Association play at Hofstra University. Match time is 7 p.m.
