UD volleyball team to open season in Carolina

10:59 a.m., Aug. 21, 2003--The University of Delaware volleyball team will open the 2003 season with three consecutive tournaments in South Carolina, New Mexico and New Jersey.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens, coached by Bonnie Kenney, will participate in the two-day College of Charleston Invitational on Aug. 29-30. The Hens will take on the College of Charleston and Middle Tennessee State University in games Friday, Aug. 29, and Texas Christian University on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The Hens will then head west for the University of New Mexico Tournament Sept. 5-6. There, they will meet Alcorn State University on Friday, Sept. 5, and Youngstown State University and New Mexico on Saturday, Sept. 6.

Delaware will conclude the early season tournament schedule in the Rutgers University Clarion Suites Classic on Sept. 12-13. The Hens will meet Rutgers on Friday, Sept. 12, and George Washington University and St. Peter’s College on Saturday, Sept. 13.

After single games at Temple University on Sept. 16 and Colonial Athletic Association rival Hofstra University on Sept. 25, the Hens will open their home schedule at 7 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, against LaSalle University on Barb Viera Court in the Carpenter Sports Building.

UD finished the 2002 season with a record of 9-20, 6-10 in the CAA.
