Bennett sets pole vault record, qualifies for ECAC
UD freshman Rachel Young won the discus and was the only individual champion of the meet for the Fightin Blue Hens. She won the event with a toss of 140 feet, 6 inches, just one inch off the school record. Young finished second in the shot put with a personal best of 42 feet, 8-1/4 inches and eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 127 feet, 7 inches. Bennett finished second in the pole vault with a UD record leap of 12 feet, 5 1/2 inches. That broke the mark of 11 feet, 5-1/4 inches she set earlier this season. With the jump, Bennett qualified her for the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships to be held May 13-16 at Yale University and for the NCAA regional championships to be held May 28-29 at the University of Florida. UDs Kristen Collins finished third in the high jump (5-1), Vicki Hufnagel sixth in the 100 meter hurdles (15.37), Stephanie Cronk sixth in the hammer (128-5) and 10th in the discus (114-7), and Jessica Urbonas sixth in the discus (118-11). For the UD men, Scott Armstrong finished sixth in the javelin (174-10), Eric Lehrer eighth in the javelin (167-3), Andrew Lynch eighth in the discus (127-10), Kevin DuPrey ninth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:56.59), Ryan Benishake ninth in the hammer (139-4) and Antwain Flowers 10th in the 400 meters (52.17).
