Bennett, Stille cap seasons at NCAA regional event 1:54 p.m., June 1, 2004--University of Delaware junior pole vaulter Casey Bennett finished in a tie for ninth place, and freshman Mandy Stille came in 25th in the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA track and field regional competition, held Friday, May 28, at the University of Florida in Gainesville. Bennett cleared 12 feet, 4 inches in the pole vault. Princetons Chelo Canino won the event with a jump of 13 feet, 9-3/4 inches. Stille broke her own school record in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 14.34. That improved the mark of 14.42 she set earlier this season. Florida's Andrea Bliss won the event, running 13.05. Both Bennett and Stille became the first UD women's track and field athletes to compete at the NCAA regionals, and participation in regionals capped outstanding seasons for both. Stille established school records in the 100-meter hurdles, triple jump and heptathlon, and also ran on the record-breaking 4 x 100 and 4x 400-meter relay teams. Bennett has won the pole vault event at nine different meets during the indoor and outdoor seasons and holds the school record at 12 feet, 6 inches. She is a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American candidate. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
