Delaware’s Mandy Stille wins CAA championship

10:15 a.m., April 19, 2004--Freshman Mandy Stille was the University of Delaware’s lone individual champion as she captured the 100-meter hurdles at the Colonial Athletic Association outdoor track and field championships held Saturday at Sports Backer's Stadium in Richmond, Va.

By winning the 100-meter hurdles, Stille qualified for the NCAA Regionals to be held May 28-29 at the University of Florida in Gainesville.

Stille won the hurdles in a school record time of 14.42. She also finished third in the 1,600-meter relay, fourth in the 400-meter hurdles, fourth in the 400-meter relay in a school record time of 47.17 and fifth in the triple jump with a school record distance of 38-9 3/4.

In team competition, the UD men finished fourth and the women sixth. The College of William & Mary claimed both the men's and women's team titles.

Stille was joined by Brittany Wright, Kristen Frustillo and Tyechia Smith in the record-breaking 400-meter relay, which broke the previous mark of 47.75 set in 1990. Smith later broke the school record in the 400-meter run with a fourth-place time of 57.04.

Wright also finished fourth in the 100 meters (12.14) and seventh in the 200 meters (25.87), freshman Rachel Young finished fourth in the discus (118-6) and fifth in the shot put (40-11 1/4), and Frustillo finished fourth in the 100 meters (12.20).

The 1,600-meter relay team of Rachel Schultz, Stille, Daniella Price and Wright finished third in a time of 3:58.16.

For the UD men, Chris Dixon finished second in the 400-meter hurdles (54.03) and the 110-meter hurdles (14.78). Jerome Holder finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (54.55).

Also for the UD men, Charlie Williams finished third in the 400 meters (48.92) and teamed with Dave Sherman, Holder and Dixon to finish third in the 1,600-meter relay (3:17.76).

Freshman Mike Zeberkiewicz finished fifth in the 800 meters (1:56.10), Phil Smiley fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (55.78), Roger Brown seventh in the 100 meters (10.85) and Mike Yost sixth in the discus (135-5) and 10th in the shot put (43-10 3/4).

The 400-meter relay team of Sidney Haugabrook, Brown, Williams and Rashaad Woodard finished fifth (42.49).
