Delaware’s Roger Brown races to indoor sprint victories

Roger Brown won the 60- and 200-meter sprints in the Thomson Invitational.
1:09 p.m., Feb. 9, 2004--The University of Delaware indoor track team recorded seven victories, including two by Roger Brown in the men's sprint events, during the UD/Thomson Indoor Track and Field Invitational, held Saturday and Sunday at the Delaware Field House.

The UD women’s team had three individual winners and posted 10 top five finishes while the Fightin’ Blue Hen men had four wins and 17 top five finishes.

Brown was UD’s lone double winner as he captured the 60-meter dash in a time of 8.43 seconds and later won the 200-meter dash in a time of 22.32.

Also taking home first-place finishes for the UD men were Jerome Holder in the 60-meter hurdles (8.43) and the 4x400 relay team (3:25.94).

UD’s Mandy Stille placed in the top 10 in four different events and won the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 10-1/4 inches. Stille also placed second in the long jump (17 feet, 8-3/4 inches), fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.20) and eighth in the 200 meters (26.62).

Also winning for the Hens were freshman Rachel Young in the shot put (40 feet, 6-3/4 inches) and Casey Bennett in the pole vault (11 feet, 11-3/4 inches). Bennett won for the fifth time this season.

For the UD men, Holder was fifth in the 200 meters (23.28), Patrick Riley was second in the mile (4:22.35), Sidney Haugabrook was second in the 60 meters (7.11), Mike Sadowsky was second in the 5,000 meters (15:22.90), Rashaad Woodard was third in the 200 meters (22.70) and fifth in the 60 meters (7.19), and Mike Yost was third in the weight throw (50 feet, 2 inches) and sixth in the shot put (44 feet, 6 inches).

For the UD women, Lissy Dean was second in the triple jump (36 feet, 5-3/4 inches) and fifth in the long jump (16 feet, 5-1/4 inches), Jessica Urbonas was second in the weight throw (41 feet, 9-1/4 inches) and third in the shot put (35 feet, 11-1/2 inches), Elizabeth Russell was third in the high jump (4 feet, 11 inches) and sixth in the long jump (15 feet, 11-1/2 inches), Tyechia Smith was third in the 200 meters (26.24) and eighth in the 60 meters (8.30), Kristen Frustillo was fifth in the 60 meters (8.14) and sixth in the 200 meters (26.54), and Lauren Palmer was fifth in the shot put (31 feet, 9-1/2 inches) and sixth in the weight throw (38 feet, 7 inches).
