Blue Hens set four records at Penn State track meet

2:47 p.m., Feb. 2, 2004--University of Delaware athletes set four school records during the Penn State National Open Indoor Track and Field Meet held Jan. 30-31 at the Horace Ashenfelter Indoor Track.

UD men had nine top 20 finishes and the women had five top 20 finishes in a meet that featured teams from throughout the country.

Jerome Holder had the team's best finish as he placed fourth in the 60 meter hurdles in a school record time of 8.20, besting his own school mark of 8.30 set earlier this season.

Also setting a school record for the men was freshman Rashaad Woodard, who placed eighth in the 200 meters with a school record time of 22.04, breaking the mark of 22.16 set by Butch Patrick in 2002.

Casey Bennett had the top finish among UD women as she tied her own school record in the pole vault with a jump of 12 feet, 6 inches to place third overall.

Also setting a record for the Hens was the 4x400 meter relay team of Kristin Frustillo, Tyechia Smith, Brittany Wright and Sarah Bochet, which ran to a 13th-place finish in a time of 3:54.70. The old mark was 3:54.78 set by the team of Frustillo, Smith, Rachel Schultz and Erin Gemmill in 2003.

Also placing in the top 20 for the UD men were Roger Brown in the 60 meters (eighth in the preliminaries in 6.99) and 200 meters (12th in 22.06), Patrick Riley in the 5,000 meters (10th in 14:47.2), John Morgan in the 1,000 meters (13th in 2:30.25), Sidney Haugabrook in the 60 meters (15th with 7.06 in the preliminaries), the 4x400 meter relay team of Holder, Andrew Cox, Charlie Williams and Chris Dixon (16th in 3:21.75) and Charlie Dielmann in the 1,000 meters (19th in 2:31.66).

Also placing in the top 20 for the UD women were freshman Rachel Young in the shot put (11th with a throw of 41 feet, 1-3/4 inches) and freshman Mandy Stille in the triple jump (12th in 36 feet, 8-1/4 inches) and 60 meter hurdles (19th with a time of 9.04 in the preliminaries).
