Letterman move over: UDs top 10 Why I shouldnt get drunk list a hit #9: Toilets are designed to be sat on, not hugged. #8: You don't want to hear your parents say they're disappointed in you. #7:Your drinking "friends" may not be the friends you would choose sober. #6: The experience of sitting in the back of a police car is not what you want on your résumé. #5: Most date rapes and sexual assaults are alcohol-related. #4: The last thing your roommate wants is to baby-sit you in the middle of the night. #3: Your date seemed more attractive last night. #2: Bushes and lawns dont make the best beds. And the #1 reason for not getting drunk: Drunk-dialing your parents at 2 a.m. is not what they meant by staying in touch. Those are the 10 reasons for not getting drunk that the Building Responsibility Coalition (BRC), a campus/community partnership, started delivering to residence halls in the form of magnets in September. These Late Night-like messages were slipped into student mailboxes at random. They also were available for pickup at the Carpenter Sports Building, student centers, Student Health Service and the counseling center. Now that the magnets have been distributed, there will be T-shirts and posters emblazoned with the 10 reasons available for students. T-shirts supplies are limited and will be given to those who helped distribute the magnets, resident assistants, residence life staff and will be available at some alcohol-free events. Posters will be given to every student who lives in a residence life hall, and distributed to student centers and the Carpenter Sports Building. I still see people wearing last years shirts, Tracy Bachman, BRC program director, said. Students in Bachmans Research on Alcohol class came up with the slogans for the magnets last spring.
Students were actually anticipating each new slogan and some were collecting them. I think it was positive that so many students and student employees were aware of them and made an effort to get them, Johnson said. Bachman said shes been told that students look forward to finding them in their mailboxes and even trade them. Developed by students for students, the magnets were designed by Mindy Gates, AS 03, a graphic artist in the Universitys Office of Public Relations.
