Parking lot to take place of former fraternity house

4:14 p.m., March 24, 2004--A 15-space parking lot will take the place of the former Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity house, the building that stood at the corner of Orchard Road and West Delaware Avenue until its demolition Wednesday, March 24.

According to Vic Costa, director of Facilities, Planning and Construction, the razing and clean-up process, including the removal of the chain-link security fence surrounding the site, will be complete by Friday, March 26, and the lot will be open by mid-June.

The building, which was formerly used as a residence by members of Tau Kappa Epsilon, had fallen into disrepair after the fraternity’s suspension and subsequent charter revocation during the 2002-03 academic year.

Costa, who oversaw the project, said that plans for demolition and resurfacing began immediately after the University acquired the property in February.
