UD tennis teams split matches against Hofstra

10:48 a.m., April 12, 2004--The University of Delaware women’s tennis team swept all nine matches to post a 7-0 win over Hofstra University in Colonial Athletic Association action Saturday at the Delaware Field House Courts. In men’s play, Hofstra edged UD 4-3.

The UD women won the six singles matches, five by straight sets. Sari Shuster was victorious at No. 1 singles, Liz Perlow at No. 2, Marissa Singer at No. 3, Beth Principe at No. 5 and Stefanie Riddle at No. 6 all posted straight set wins. No. 4 Jamie deGraffenreid, needed three sets to down Hofstra's Jill Spiritus 2-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Shuster and Riddle each won their team-high 12th matches of the season.

The Hens also won all three doubles competitions with Shuster and deGraffenreid winning their third straight match of the season at the No. 1 spot. Principe and Katie Miller won at No. 2 and Perlow and Singer won at No. 3.

In men’s play, Hofstra's Rodrigo Teixeira downed John Tully in three sets in the last match of the day to clinch the 4-3 victory.

UD won the doubles point with three wins by identical scores of 9-8. Tully and Sanjay Khindri won at No. 1, Josh Ditman and Ari Zweig won at No. 2, and Jon Edwards and Philip Wayne won at No. 3.

In singles, Zweig posted a 6-4, 1-6, 7-5 win over Robert Sforzo at No. 5 and Wayne a 6-1, 6-4 win over Mario Hluch at No. 6.
