Newark Symphony Orchestra performs Dec. 14

3:51 p.m., Dec. 9, 2003--The Newark Symphony Orchestra will perform its final Symphony Series concert of 2003 at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 14, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Entitled “Soaring Spirits,” the concert will feature “Symphony No. 2” by Johannes Brahms, the “Fra Diavolo Overture” by Daniel-François Auber and “Umi No Naka” (“In the Sea”) by guest artist Jeannine Maddox.

Maddox, who pursued advanced studies in Japan with marimba master Keiko Abe, wrote “Umi No Naka” to express her wonder for nature and spiritual harmony.

The program is made possible, in part, by grants from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Delaware Division of the Arts.

Tickets, available at the door, are $12 for the general public, $10 for senior citizens, $6 for students and free for youths 12 and under. For more information or to request a brochure, call 369-3466 or visit [www.newarksymphony.org].
