Early bloomers proclaim spring

3:42 p.m., March 22, 2004--In temperamental March, snow and ice can still compete with the occasional warm, sunny day to make everyone wonder if spring is really coming.

People aren’t the only ones confused by the variable weather. A mixed-up group of viburnums on the corner of Amstel Avenue and Orchard Road is now showing off colorful, clustered, pink flowers a month in advance, according to Tom Taylor, UD landscape engineer.

Whatever the reason for their early debut, the viburnums are welcome messengers of spring, proclaiming that the annual transformation of the UD campus to a wonderland of hundreds of blossoming trees and shrubs is under way.

And, spring is the optimal time to get out and enjoy what The Princeton Review called, “absolutely the most gorgeous campus anywhere.”
