Delaware, St. Joseph’s split softball doubleheader

UD’s Randi Isaacs drove home the winning run in a victory over St. Joseph’s.
10:29 a.m., March 4, 2004--The pitchers were dominant as the host University of Delaware softball team split a doubleheader against St. Joseph's University on Wednesday, losing the opener 2-0 then winning the nightcap 1-0.

Fightin’ Blue Hens pitcher Jenn Joseph fired a four-hit shutout to gain the split, after a two-hit performance by Dana Travis of St. Joseph’s.

Travis allowed just two hits and one walk and struck out seven Hens to make Alicia Cunic's first inning home run stand up. The homer was one of just six hits allowed by UD freshman pitcher Carolynn Sloat, who went the distance and struck out five Hawks.

In the nightcap, Joseph also made a first inning run stand up as she allowed just four hits while striking out five Hawks.

Randi Isaacs, playing in place of the injured Liz Winslow at first base, singled to score Laura Streets for that game's only run. Streets had reached base on a two-out double to left.

UD is now 7-6 on the season. The Hens will host Bucknell University in a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday, March 6. It will be the season opener for Bucknell, which is picked to finish fifth in the Patriot League.
