Delaware softball team earns berth in CAA tournament

9:47 a.m., May 10, 2004--The University of Delaware softball team has clinched a berth in the Colonial Athletic Association championship tournament, which will begin Thursday, May 13, at Hempstead, N.Y.

The Fightin’ Blue Hens will face top-seeded Hofstra University, the tournament host, in the second game of the double elimination event on Thursday afternoon. James Madison and Towson will meet in the opening game at noon.

UD finished the regular season 27-22-1 overall and 9-8 in the conference. The Hens lost three games to Hofstra during a weekend series in April.

Hofstra finished the season 30-18 overall and 14-4 in the CAA. The Pride won the conference title in 2002 and 2003.
