UD softball to host CAA rival James Madison
The teams will play a doubleheader beginning at noon, Saturday, March 27, and will play a single game at noon, Sunday, March 28. James Madison is 14-15 on the season but went 4-1 and finished second in the Dukes Invitational tournament it hosted last weekend. In that tournament, James Madison went 1-1 against Lehigh University, which swept a doubleheader from the Fightin Blue Hens on Wednesday. The Dukes defeated Lehigh 3-1 to open tournament action but fell to them 3-1 in the title game. UD fell to 15-10 following the twin losses to Lehigh, which won the opener 4-0 and the nightcap 3-1. In the first game, Lehigh pitcher Emily Ling fired a two-hit shutout. She took a no hitter into the fifth before Liz Winslow singled to left field with one out. The hit was the 100th of Winslows career, making her the 17th UD player to achieve that milestone. In the second game, Lehigh took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on RBI singles by Shanna Treon and Jessica Young. UD got one run back in the sixth when Hens loaded the bases with one out on three straight singles, chasing starting pitcher Kate Arico. Lehigh reliever Heather Hamasaki got Laurie Erickson to pop up and then hit Jenny Gilkins with a pitch to force in a run. Hamaski escaped further damage, however, when she struck out Lauren Gardner to end the inning. Lehigh scored an insurance run on the seventh. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
