UD men's soccer coach signs eight recruits |

10:55 a.m., July 3, 2003--Eight mens soccer standouts, including two from one of the nations most accomplished high school programs, have signed NCAA national letters of intent to attend the University of Delaware on athletic scholarships.
UD Head Coach Marc Samonisky announced the signings on Wednesday, July 2.
The recruits include stopper Anthony Pezza and midfielder Anthony Molinaro, both from St. Benedicts Preparatory School in Newark, N.J., which fielded the top-ranked team in New Jersey the last three years and which rose to the top of the national rankings in 2001.
Other recruits are forwards Kyle Peters of Mt. Laurel, N.J., and George Severini of Havertown, Pa.; midfielders Zac Naylon of Shillington, Pa., and Ian Sylvester of Dover; stopper Matt Haney of Newark and sweeper Anthony Talarico of Blackwood, N.J.
Pezza was a four-year starter at St. Benedicts, which posted an incredible four-year mark of 101-1-3. He was a two-time All-Essex County selection and was named to the All-State Prep team as a senior. His older brother, Nick, plays soccer at Monmouth.
Molinaro also was a standout at St. Benedicts, earning second team All-State Prep honors this past fall. He began his high school career at Neptune High School were he was a starter as a freshman and earned first team all-league honors.
Peters holds the all-time scoring record at Holy Cross High School, where he was a four-year starter in soccer as a forward and midfielder. He was named the county Player of the Year in 2002 and was named to the Associated Press New Jersey All-State team for the second time in his career. His older brother, Ryan, plays soccer at the U.S. Naval Academy. He plans to major in agribusiness and food management.
Severini was a four-year varsity starter at Haverford High School, where he was the schools all-time leading scorer as a forward and midfielder. Severini led Haverford to a district playoff berth as a senior, earning All-State, All-Region, All-Southeastern Pennsylvania and All-Delaware County honors. His father, Jorge, played professional soccer in Argentina and his older brother, Nicholas, plays soccer at the University of Pennsylvania.
Naylon was a three-sport standout at Governor Mifflin High School, where he participated in soccer, volleyball and wrestling. He was a three-year starter in soccer as a center midfielder and was a two-time team captain. He was a three-time All-Division selection and earned All-Berks County honors as a senior. He plans to major in business.
Sylvester was a four-year midfielder and defender at Dover High School, where he served as team captain as a senior. He earned first team All-State honors twice in his career and was a three-time All-Henlopen Conference selection. A National Honor Society student, he plans to major in business at Delaware.
Haney enjoyed a strong career at St. Elizabeth High School, where he was a four-year varsity performer in soccer and also played two seasons of varsity basketball. He earned first team All-State honors as a senior and was a four-time All-Catholic League performer. He plans to major in biology.
Talarico played four years at Bishop Eustace High School, which he led to the South Jersey title and a state runner-up finish as a junior. He earned second team All-State honors and second team All-South Jersey honors as a senior.
