24 hours of Shakespeare set for April 23

4:54 p.m., April 21, 2004--UD’s annual “24 Hours of Shakespeare” is slated to begin around midnight, Thursday, April 22, and runs through 11:59 p.m., Friday, April 23, on the north steps of Memorial Hall on The Green.

Sponsored by the Department of English and E-52 student theatre group, the event this year celebrates the Bard’s 440th birthday. While the exact date of Shakespeare’s birth is not known, records from Holy Trinity Church in Strafford-upon-Avon, England, indicate that Shakespeare was baptized there on April 26, 1564.

Featured works in order of presentation include “Twelfth Night,” “The Winter’s Tale,” “Julius Caesar,” “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” “Romeo and Juliet” and “Richard III.” Additional scheduled readings include “Hamlet,” “As You Like It,” “Much Ado About Nothing,” “The Comedy of Errors,” “The Taming of the Shrew” and “Macbeth.”

Although a new play is scheduled every two hours, actual presentation times may vary from the initial schedule by a much as an hour. For more information, e-mail [gwent@udel.edu].
