Serafin String Quartet performs Dec. 8

4:26 p.m., Dec. 5, 2003--The American String Teacher's Association Chapter at UD presents a benefit concert featuring the Serafin String Quartet at 8 p.m., Monday, Dec. 8, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

The program includes the “String Quartet in G Major, K. 80 (Lodi Quartet)” by W.A.Mozart, the “String Quintet in C Major, Op. 12, # 4” by Luigi Boccherini and the “String Quartet in F minor, Op. 95,” by Beethoven. Joining the Serafin String Quartet for the Boccherini quintet is cellist Steven Framil, visiting professor of cello at UD.

Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $3 for students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or in advance at the Trabant University or Bob Carpenter centers box offices.

The Serafin String Quartet interprets and performs the traditional masterworks for string quartet and also regularly programs less familiar works from the 18th century to the present.

Based in Wilmington, the quartet performs extensively in the Mid-Atlantic region, as well as nationwide. A highlight of the quartet's 2003-04 season will be its appearance at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York on March 27. Members of the Serafin String Quartet are Kate Ransom and Luigi Mazzocchi, violins, Anthony Simmons, viola, and Carolyn Ellman, cello.
