Depression screening offered on Oct. 7

2:40 p.m., Sept. 30, 2003--Although everyone wrestles occasionally with the blues, depression is a serious—and frequently undertreated and misdiagnosed—disease. To assist University faculty and staff in determining whether or not they suffer from depression, the Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) is offering free depression screening and education on Tuesday, Oct. 7.

Held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Human Resources Building at 413 Academy St., the day-long program coincides with National Depression Screening Day and is designed to raise mental health awareness among University employees.

Besides offering individual screenings, the program also provides information on symptoms and treatments for depression, as well as referrals to mental heath care professionals throughout the tri-state area. Screenings take approximately 10 to 15 minutes and are strictly confidential.

To schedule a screening, University employees are required to register by Friday, Oct. 3, at the Human Resources Building. For more information on the program, call Patricia Porter, a licensed social worker and consultant for FSAP, at 831-2414.
