Lecture explores science and religion Nov. 6 8:55 a.m., Oct. 23, 2003--Two University professors, Harry L. Shipman and Stephen M. Barr, will explore the balance between science and religion in an off-campus lecture Thursday, Nov. 6, at First and Central Presbyterian Church, in Wilmington. The lecture, which is scheduled for 6:30 p.m., is sponsored by the St. Thomas More Society and is entitled, Science and ReligionFriends or Enemies? A 5:30 p.m. reception in the church meeting hall will precede the talk and provide a chance for audience members to join the society. Shipman, who is the Annie Jump Cannon Professor of Astronomy at UD, is an internationally recognized scholar who has written extensively on the late stages of stellar life cycles. He is also a director of UDs Center for Teaching Effectiveness. Barr, who is professor of physics with the Bartol Research Institute, is an expert on theoretical particle physics. He is also the author of Modern Physics and Ancient Faith, which was published in March. First and Central Presbyterian Church is located at 11th and Market streets in Wilmington.
