Prospective students check out the campus on Blue and Golden Saturdays

10:45 a.m., Oct. 24, 2003--Each fall, UD’s Office of Undergraduate Admissions sponsors a series of large recruitment events called Blue & Golden Saturdays. Three Saturdays are designated to give prospective students and their families an opportunity to get to know the people, resources and beauty of the University of Delaware. The first Blue & Golden Saturday was Oct. 11, and the next two are scheduled for Oct. 25 and Nov. 8.

On Oct. 11, a total of 850 prospective students and family members attended Blue & Golden Saturday. About 2,300 are expected Oct. 25.

The day starts at 9 a.m. with a continental breakfast in Gore Hall. Attendees plan their days around programs that deal with their potential majors. All six of the undergraduate colleges host early academic information sessions.

Other programs highlight UD’s overall student experience, including LIFE (Learning Integrated Freshman Experience), undergraduate research, study abroad and the honors program, along with information sessions on the admissions process, scholarships and financial aid.

During the day, a “Fest-O-Fall” is held on The South Green, where informational tables are set up featuring more than 25 UD departmental staff to answer questions and interact with prospective students.

The activities continue throughout the day with residence hall open houses, tours led by the Blue Hen Ambassadors and visits to the Carpenter Sports Building and Morris Library.

At 2 p.m., all visitors from Delaware are invited to attend “Just for Delawareans,” a special reception focusing on the need of and benefits for Delaware students and their families.

Last year’s three Blue & Golden Saturdays brought 7,600 attendees to campus, of whom 1,936 were prospective students. The admissions office expects to have similar attendance this year.
