3:25 p.m., Sept. 5, 2003--Now is the time to nominate UD’s new Spirit Ambassadors, that diverse group of UD undergraduates who represent the best qualities of UD students. These students are involved in campus and community activities, have demonstrated leadership skills, take pride in the University and intend to become active Blue and Gold alumni.

Spirit Ambassadors encourage school spirit, interact with alumni, support the Office of Alumni and University Relations by serving as student hosts at campus events, serve as an advisory board to help senior administrators keep in touch with student concerns and represent and interact with student groups and the student body.

Recommendations are sought from faculty, staff and residence hall staff members. Application forms are now available in Alumni Hall, the Trabant University Center, the Perkins Student Center and the Student Services Building. The application form also is available online as a PDF document at [www.udel.edu/spiritambassadors].

The forms must be received by noon, Tuesday, Sept. 23, by the Spirit Ambassador Selection Committee, c/o University of Delaware Office of Alumni and University Relations in Alumni Hall.

Finalists will be selected by Wednesday, Oct. 1, and they will be featured in a special online poll, scheduled from 8 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 7, through 5 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 14.

The new Student Ambassadors will be announced and recognized at Midnight Mania, Friday, Oct. 17, and at halftime at the Homecoming football game on Saturday, Oct. 18. The recipient of the T. Muncy Keith Spirit Award, a $1,000 scholarship presented annually by the University of Delaware Alumni Association to the Spirit Ambassador who has made, or has the potential to make, the greatest contributions to the group, will also be announced at the football game.
