Blue Hen rowing team competes in ECAC regatta

11:24 a.m., May 11, 2004--The University of Delaware rowing team advanced three boats to the finals of the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Metro Regatta, held Sunday at Lake Quinisigmond in Worcester, Mass.

UD’s second novice eights crew led the way, finishing fourth. The novice eights and the second varsity eights both finished fifth, the varsity fours finished seventh and the varsity eights finished eighth.

The University of Massachusetts won the novice eights, second varsity eights and varsity eights while New Hampshire captured the second novice eights and Marist the varsity fours.

The UD second novice eights team of Kenna Plangemann, Jenn Boutin, Lynn Hamski, Katie Broullire, Stacey Walczak, Laura Belfi, Lindsey Wood, Christina Stanley and Brie Sheppard raced to a time of 8:15.55. New Hampshire won the race in 7:50.0 followed by Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Delaware.

The novice eights team consisted of Alison Harrington, Rachel Thomas, Nicky Bradley, Elizabeth Martin, Lisa Karwoski, Betsy Seeger, Laura Beaufort, Maria Bellumori and Nikki Jackowsky. The second varsity eights team consisted of Nicole Lombardi, Lyra Sawzin, Emily McElwain, Elizabeth Harris, Melanie Turner, Janice Brown, Dawn’yel Boucek, Jenn Boutin and Jess Kostick.

UD’s varsity fours team of Jill Goldman, Jamie Schoenewald, Susan Carbine, Stephanie Miller and Cathy Savarese won the petite final and was seventh overall with a time of 8:52.15.

The varsity eights team of Carolyn Serey, Maureen Gillen, Elizabeth McGarry, Leanna Ferrand, Elizabeth McInturff, Andrea Placke, Dawn Hussnatter, Laura McDonald and Lane Kohl was second in the petite final and eighth overall with a time of 7:01.20.
