Patrols combat illegal street racing in Newark

10:40 a.m., July 14, 2003--After last summer’s successful “Drivers, Stop Your Engines” anti-street racing campaign, Newark Police are conducting the program again this summer.

Supplemental enforcement patrols, supported by a grant from the state Office of Highway Safety, made several arrests during the month of June. A total of 21 drivers were charged with speeding, and others were charged with DUI, possession of marijuana, disregarding a stop sign and other offenses.
