Paul Wise receives top restaurant industry award

1:37 p.m., Feb. 20, 2004--Paul Wise, professor emeritus of in UD’s Department of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management (HRIM), was honored with the 2003 Cornerstone Award by the Delaware Restaurant Association at its annual industry event in Wilmington. This is the second time the award was given, and the proceeds from the Cornerstone Awards event go to the Delaware Restaurant Association’s scholarship fund for
UD students enrolled in the HRIM program.

The Cornerstone Award “honors the restaurant, business or individual whose hard work, dedication and creativity added luster and prestige to the hospitality industry in Delaware. The nominee must have at least 15 years of service to achieve this lifetime achievement award.”

Wise graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a bachelor’s degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management and received his master’s degree in food marketing from Michigan State University. Before coming to UD as the founder and chairperson of HRIM, he was associated with the military, responsible for 670 army clubs and hotels.

An active member of many hotel and restaurant associations, Wise was the Pennsylvania State University Hotel and Restaurant Society Alumnus of the Year, is a member of the International Military Club Executive Association Hall of Fame and the Hall of Fame for Outstanding Individual Achievement in the 2000 Governor’s Tourism Awards. He received the Educational Institute of the American Hotel and Motel Association’s Lamp of Knowledge Award. At UD, he was honored by the establishment of the Paul Wise Executive-in-Residence Fund at his retirement in 2000.
