Advertising for sex ed program offends some 4:45 p.m., May 14, 2004--A sex education workshop presented Thursday, May 13, in the Rodney Residence Hall complex was advertised by the student presenter in a way that was offensive to several individuals. The advertising, which included e-mail messages to Rodney residents and posters in the complex, was not previewed nor approved by University officials. Part of the Campus Life philosophy is to provide programming of value and interest to our students, Cynthia Cummings, asosociate vice president for student life, said. In this case, the over-enthusiastic, independent actions of a resident assistant in marketing a presentation misrepresented and cheapened the value of the information being shared. Steps have been put in place to prevent another occurrence of this type. We regret any discomfort or embarrassment the advertising may have caused our students. The resident assistant responsible will not be serving in that capacity in the future. To learn how to subscribe to UDaily, click here. |
