Police investigate incident on Elkton Road

4:56 p.m., June 29, 2004--Newark Police are investigating an incident that occurred around 1 p.m., Monday, June 28, along Elkton Road, near the intersection with Main Street.

Three juvenile females were walking along the street when a burgundy-colored, commercial-type van pulled over near them. The van’s rear door slid open and someone in the van tried to engage the young women in conversation. The women became alarmed and began to walk away. Two men got out of the van and began to walk behind them. As the women approached a group of friends, they looked back and the men were gone, as was the van.

Anyone in the area or who has seen the vehicle described is asked to call the Newark Police Department at (302) 366-7110, ext. 132, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.

Members of the University community are reminded to take safety precautions and always be aware of their surroundings. Additional safety tips can be found at [www.udel.edu/PublicSafety/safetytips.htm].
