'Go Greek' campaigners sport pink T-shirts

3:45 p.m., Nov. 13, 2003 p.m., Oct. 3, 2003--To advertise the importance of Greek life, the Pan-Hellenic Council and other members of the UD community have begun a campuswide “Go Greek” campaign. As part of the campaign, girls from the nine Pan-Hellenic sororities will wear pink T-shirts on designated days to show the unity that exists among the sororities. The shirts say, “In life there are leaders and followers, we don’t follow, we all lead together.”

“It promotes simply being Greek as opposed to an affiliation to a particular sorority,” Desiree Rhinesmith, CHEP ’05, a member of Alpha Phi, said.

In addition to the pink T-shirts, there are three “Go Greek” events scheduled to take place during the semester. The first was a dating game held at Harrington Beach on Oct. 30. “The game was a mix between MTV’s ‘Singled Out’ and NBC’s ‘Fear Factor,’” Rhinesmith said.

The second event is a lip-sync contest, still waiting to be scheduled. The participating sororities compose quirky dances and props to go along with cassette tapes of songs. A third event is being planned to take place before the semester ends.

“The shirts, events and increased publicity are designed to provide a more in-depth look at Greek life to those who aren’t involved, in hopes of encouraging them to join,” Rhinesmith said.
