Physicist's perspective on the Arctic, climate change to be presented Nov. 12

1:40 p.m., Nov. 10, 2003--Andreas Muenchow, associate professor of physical ocean science and engineering in UD’s College of Marine Studies, will give an informal lecture at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the University Gallery on “Landscape, Seascape and People of the Arctic: A Physicist’s Perspective.” Light refreshments and coffee will be served.

Muenchow, who has worked as a physical oceanographer in the Arctic since 1992, returned to Newark recently after spending three months at sea in the Arctic off Greenland, Ellesmere Island, Alaska and Siberia. He will discuss his research on the effects of freshwater flow from the Arctic on global climate, share his thoughts about “time rate of change” in both the Arctic and local environments and discuss the physics of nature.

The free public event is the last special program being presented in conjunction with the exhibition “Land of Ice, Hearts of Fire: Inuit Art and Culture,” which continues through Dec. 14. For more information call 831-8242.
