The photograph, which depicts an African-American sailor splicing a line from a cargo net, was taken by Rosenfelds father, Stanley Rosenfeld.
Stanley Rosenfeld, who grew up in the Bronx in the early 1900s, entered the family photographic business at the age of 13 and later acquired fame for his work depicting the shipping industry in the 20th century. Together with the photographs taken by his father, Morris Rosenfeld, Stanley Rosenfelds work forms the body of the internationally recognized Rosenfeld Collection, one of the largest archives of maritime photographs in the United States.
Andersen and Rosenfeld presented Jones with the photograph to honor their long friendship and to continue the legacy left by Rosenfelds father.
