Peace concert set Sept. 10

2:05 p.m., Sept. 5, 2003--On Wednesday, Sept. 10, the campus will get a few decibels louder—but many degrees more peaceful—as two visiting musicians perform a free lunchtime peace concert on the terrace at the Trabant University Center.

Held to mark the two-year anniversary of 9/11 and raise social awareness, the performance will take place from noon to 1:30 p.m. and will feature folk-rockers SONiA and Lucie Blue Tremblay.

Formerly a member of Disappear Fear, the sister-act duo that won national acclaim in the early ’90s, SONiA is known for her perceptive lyrics and intricate melodies that blend reggae with mainstream pop-rock. Lucie Blue Tremblay, a Canadian singer-songwriter who frequently tours internationally to promote peace and diversity, likewise draws from a wide variety of musical genres to create songs that address cultural issues and promote social activism.

The concert is sponsored by the Commission to Promote Racial and Cultural Diversity, the Commission on the Status of Women, the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Community Office and the Office of Women’s Affairs. It is offered as part of the fall lineup for Listening Post Productions, a local non-profit organization dedicated to promoting diversity and tolerance through music.
