Gold-sticker parking to be reduced in Orchard Road lot

11:01 a.m., Jan. 28, 2004--Construction of the new Center for the Arts and garage adjacent to the Amy E. du Pont Music Building will reduce the number of gold-sticker parking spaces available at the Orchard Road lot by 210 spaces, starting Monday, Feb. 2. At the same time, gated parking spaces in that lot are being expanded from 31 to 82.

Beginning in early February, a construction fence will be installed from the Amstel Avenue entrance to the fence along the south side of the parking lot to accommodate the construction project for the new parking garage bordering Elkton Road. Gold-sticker parking will be available only south of the gated lot and in the extension. In June, however, all gold parking in the Orchard Road lot will be blocked off for construction.

Other gold-sticker parking lots include lots 33 and 34 near the Morris Library and Robinson Drive; lot 19 on North College Avenue next to McDowell Hall; and East Campus gold lots.

Full-time employees with gold parking stickers can sign up for parking in the expanded gated lot at Amy E. du Pont or in the Trabant University Center parking garage for an additional $5.29 per pay, but space is limited. The expanded gated lot will be operational until the new garage is open.

For those who wish to purchase gated lot spaces, parking services representatives will be available:

  • 9:30-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, in 234 Purnell Hall;
  • 1:30-2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 28, in 203 Smith Hall; and
  • 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, at the Office of Public Safety, 413 Academy St.

The new parking garage on Elkton Road, expected to open in January 2005, will accommodate new gated lot users, current Orchard Road gated lot users and pay-to-park customers.
